Meet Nicole
Dr. Nicole Cosentino is a clinical psychologist at eFIT Institute and a therapist within the Embark Therapy Program. Nicole is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based, and client-centred care to help people reach their goals and achieve greater well-being.
Nicole is particularly interested in helping people recognize and understand what makes them feel like their most authentic selves. She maintains a collaborative and strengths-focused approach, guiding clients toward identifying and meeting their needs while living in greater alignment with their values.
She has training in several evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, and trauma-focused treatments such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure for PTSD, and Written Exposure Therapy. Drawing from these approaches, Nicole maintains an integrative clinical practice tailored to each person's individual needs and circumstances. She has experience working with culturally diverse clients, as well as first responders, military personnel, and RCMP members.
Approach and Training
Nicole earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Toronto. Her research focused on understanding how authenticity relates to alignment across different aspects of interpersonal functioning, including a person's traits, strengths, difficulties, and values. She also examined the relationship between authenticity and important psychological and interpersonal outcomes, including well-being and how closely people's perceptions of themselves align with how others perceive them.
Nicole has experience assessing and treating a broad range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, substance use disorders, trauma-related disorders, and eating disorders.
She completed her pre-doctoral residency at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, with rotations in the Operational Stress Injury Clinic, Community Mental Health Program, Transitional Aged Youth Program, and Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders Program. She has also completed clinical practicum placements at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and North York General Hospital.
Nicole's Role in the Embark Therapy Program
Within the Embark Therapy Program, Nicole provides individualized psychotherapy, helping members develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their emotional experiences, and the patterns that influence their lives.
Nicole recognizes that the relationships, stressors, and life events a person experiences throughout their lifetime shape how they understand themselves and navigate the world. Through psychotherapy, she helps members explore the emotions rooted in these experiences, make sense of their responses, and recognize how longstanding patterns may be influencing their present difficulties.
Drawing on her integrative clinical training, Nicole works collaboratively with members to identify meaningful treatment goals and develop approaches that reflect their individual needs, strengths, and circumstances. Her work emphasizes both understanding the origins of psychological difficulties and developing practical ways to respond differently.
